Only thing you're missing out on is being able to dock and play it on your TV. Don't just brush that aside though, I thought I'd only use handheld mode but it turned out I prefer using docked 90% of the time.
Yeah it'll very likely be playable on the Switch Lite + if games like Zelda Breath Of The Wild, the Doom games, The Witcher 3, etc can play well on the Lite then I'm sure Legends will play really well on the Lite as well. There's only a handful games that can't be played on the Switch Lite since those games requires the joy cons to be separated
I purchased a few physical cartridges when I first got my Lite. Things that had been recommended to me like BotW, Smash, Animal Crossing, Pokemon Shield, 1 2 Switch and Splatoon 2. Other than Splatoon and 1 2 Switch, I generally knew what the gameplay of each was going to be like. We'll start with Splatoon 2. This isn't the worst game to play
